It is a movie that happens to take place on Christmas.

It just happens to take place around Christmas but contains absolutely none of the typical tropes of Christmas movies.

To say that Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie is like saying Halloween isn’t a Halloween movie because Michael Myers was just a serial killer wearing a Halloween mask on Halloween.

To say that Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie is like saying Halloween isn’t a Halloween movie because Michael Myers was just a serial killer wearing a Halloween mask on Halloween. This basically implies that "Die Hard IS a Christmas movie", because John McClane wore a santa suit on Christmas to go bring christmas gifts to children on Christmas. This ain't it, duder lol.

By the same argument, Home Alone isn't a Christmas movie- just happens to take place at Christmastime.

Home Alone has Christmas magic though, John Candy gives the mom a ride back, and its only MINUTES ahead of the family (had she chose to stay and not make such a dramatic race to the finish to get to her son..).
Die Hard is a Christmas movie like The Fugitive is a St. Patricks day movie.

The guy who wrote the movie itself says it's a Christmas movie.

But he only said it was a Christmas movie because the studio wanted a Christmas setting, that was it.
A setting does not mean it's a Christmas Movie.
Iron Man 3 is NOT a Christmas movie.

The movies sucked after the second one, its a movie happens to take part during Christmas but doesn't have a Christmas tone, so not a Christmas movie.

Oh, Die Hard as a whole franchise is trash.
The Rocks Skyscraper was 100% better in every way.

But he only said it was a Christmas movie because the studio wanted a Christmas setting, that was it. A setting does not mean it's a Christmas Movie. Iron Man 3 is NOT a Christmas movie. That's because the book Die Hard is based off of was about Christmas. That's likely one of the primary reasons they wanted it to have a Christmas theme. Which is more proof Die Hard is a Christmas movie. So what's your definition of a Christmas movie because several great points have been thrown at you to show it IS a Christmas movie, but your basic response has been NO, it just has Christmas setting. I can think back to some of the biggest Christmas classics and it has all of the same elements.

You can watch Die Hard any time of the year though and still gain the same satisfaction you get from watching it around the holiday season. You can’t necessarily watch The Grinch or A Christmas Story in July because it just wouldn’t give you that same nostalgic Christmas fix.
You could literally supplant Die Hard into any holiday, it doesn’t matter. You can say he’s trying to get home for Christmas but I don’t think German terrorists have any room in an Xmas flick checklist.

Imagine this scenario:
It’s Christmas Eve. Boughs of holly deck tender halls. Sugar plums dance over your children’s heads while chestnuts roast on an open fire. You gather around the family TV to watch one of many Christmas classics. Dad suggests Die Hard. Mom suggests a divorce. The children are crying, they don’t want two Christmases.
