“You know, I sometimes wonder how I find myself in these situations. But then I was never one to question fate. No point to it, after all- you can whine or worry about the hand you’ve been dealt, but at the end of the day, you still have to play it.”
As Teo speaks, the camera pans to a large iron bull-pen, where with a crashing crack of splintered wood, a gigantic bull, wearing a large golden sign labeling it as “Serenity”, bursts into the arena floor! It glares with deathly intent at the Cruiserweight Champion.
“And there we have her. A raging bull, staring me down as another victim. And why shouldn’t she? Every man, woman, or child who has ever stepped into the arena with her has fallen! She is bigger, meaner, and angrier, and what else could it take to win?”
As if to punctuate his statement, Serenity charges him wildly! The crowd gasps as the former luchador simply, with a flourish, steps to the side, letting the bull pass by him harmlessly
“Now now, Serenity, patience, patience. After all, you are the true champion, right? You are bred from finest stock, you have been brought into the arena. Come at me again, I’m sure that this time you won’t miss.”
Serenity snorts and now, with even greater fervor, charges full length at Teo! A woman in the audience screams as Teo, with master reflexes, turns once more, the bull missing by inches! Teo cockily slaps it on the haunches as it passes.
“I trust the metaphor is not lost on you, little girl. You may be petulant, arrogant, thick as a brick, and hardly able to form a coherent sentence without telling the world what you’re owed…but surely you must see where I am coming from.
I have known anger, Serenity. Your daddy didn’t tell you all the stories about me when we were going together. I know what it is to falter. To snap. I know how good it can feel to hurt someone.
Hate, Serenity, true hatred? It’s a purposeless thing. I’ve walked that road before, and it just made me worse. Reckless. Mentally weak. Flawed. Oh, anger feels good, hell, it’s a high unlike any other! But that shot in the arm…
It comes with a cost. A price that you, quite frankly, have absolutely refused to acknowledge even as it’s already taken a toll on you. You are all too happy to be a wild animal, Serenity. To tap into that deep well of resentment, to project every insecurity, every little thing that you don’t like about yourself, and to put it onto your next opponent.
I am not your enemy, Serenity.
But you need me to be. You need me to be the bad guy, so that you could justify it. You need me to be the manipulator, the slimy piece of filth that has held Cruiserclash under his thumb. So that you can delude yourself into believing the anger is justified.
Face it kid, you’re addicted to your own emotions. You can’t function unless you fabricate a reason to tap into that anger, that adrenaline.
So fine. You want an enemy, I’m right here. Charge away.”
Teo holds his hands out to his side as the bull, as if on cue, roars towards him! Time seems to stand still as the horns center in on his torso…and then…
With an almost inhuman agility, Teo leaps, rolling over the front of the bull’s horns with an acrobatic flip, landing on the other side as the bull crashes back into its pen! As he lands, he smiles at the camera.
“A bull can rage all that he wants, Serenity. But if rage is all that's there? That bull is only good as a meal. Sound familiar?”
Grinning, Teo turns with a flourish and bows to the cheering crowd as the scene fades.
