Sitting on a metal folding chair in a darkened mma gym is Buster Gloves, “The Bull of the North”. He sits hunched forward with his face in his hands. A tie hanging down from his neck. A white button up shirt rolled up to his elbows. He removes his hands from his face and begins to talk without looking directly at the camera. He remains in his chair for the entire promo, focused on the weight of his words.
“2021 was supposed to be the year that things went back to normal. We hid in our homes. We ordered Door Dash. We watched Tiger King. We did our part.
When things were darkest, we took to the streets. We marched for what we believed in. We made a difference.
We made sacrifices for the greater good, because we care about our children, our brothers, our planet.
We believed and we were promised, and we followed the science, but we were never given back our lives.
So, hope faded. Trust vanished. And jobs disappeared.
It’s time for a change. And not this bullshit notion of changing for the sake of modernity. We need to return our world to a time when universal truths brought us a sense of community, and faith, and happiness.
We need to knock down these walls. Celebrate the things we have in common. And let the sunshine down on our face.
We need to fight like hell until we are bloodied and broken, have a good cry, and then embrace each other as brothers, reunited.
For way too long we’ve bottled up our feelings and protected the most vulnerable. But it’s time to show our strength again. It’s time for a renaissance. Of love. Of life. Of professional god-damn wrestling.
2022 will be the year, when we escape from the clutches of fear and embrace the roaring twenties of the future. We all get a chance to elevate ourselves and contribute to the rebirth of professional wrestling. It’s time to turn away from the high spots, and the twitter beefs, and the corporate greed and just make wrestling great again.
In the past year, Level Up Wrestling gave me a job, when nobody else was interested. They took a chance on me and gave me a platform and allowed me to do the one thing I’m any good at. Fighting. So, I wrestle for them, not to prove that I’m the best in the world, but for a purpose much more absolute. I wrestle so that when my sons grow up to be men, this business will still be around. Because wrestling may be the last true art form on the planet and the people I work with, are artists that deserve a place in history.
Each one of us that step in the ring, whether it be in Action Wrestling, Level Up Wrestling, or any other organization, owes everyone that came before and will come after, to keep this sport pure. Athleticism. Performance. Technical prowess. These are the cornerstones of wrestling, and they should be celebrated.
2022 won’t come without its own challenges. But every day is another opportunity to do something special. To build on the foundation already at your feet. Seize that opportunity. Make the world just a little bit better.
An opportunity was presented to me to participate in a massive battle royale for this company. Action Wrestling. A name well-known in this business. It was a call to represent Level Up Wrestling, my own personal gym, and my people. I formally accept this invitation to participate in the CruiserHavoc royal rumble. And should the wrestling gods bless me with gold when the night is over, so be it. But there are bigger prizes to be held. Respect. Camaraderie. Recognition.
On Wednesday December 22nd I hope that I make a few friends. I hope that I make a few enemies. And I hope that somewhere out there, I make a fan out of some young man or woman who will be inspired to restore this industry and this world to its former glory.”
