A busy grocery store during holiday peak hours. Chase is walking his dad through an isle as they're filling up their cart. They're laughing as the dad teases Chase and they pick up a food item and put it in the cart. They look up and notice someone walking towards them in their direction. That someone being Chase' ex-girlfriend and at one point, his manager in Action Wrestling.
The awkward encounter stops both of them in their tracks. They stutter to say hello, but it's Chase dad who hugs her and says its good to see her. She of course reciprocates the hug and hello from the dad. Jackons dad looks back at him and winks. He takes the cart and continues around the corner of the isle leaving his son with the ex.
Chase Jackson: Hey, uh, hows it going?
Lyn: I'm good, I'm doing okay. How are you? I noticed you've been on TV a lot more.
Chase Jackson: Yeah, I mean I guess, its alright.
The two just smile at each other.
Chase Jackson: It's good seeing you.
Lyn: Yeah. It's good seeing you again, Chase.
Lyn smiles again as she starts to push the cart but Chase stops her.
Chase Jackson: Oh, how are you and your new boyfriend?
She stops and smiles.
Chase Jackson: Sorry, I'm not being weird..
Chase looks around a bit awkwardly but brings his gaze back to her.
Chase Jackson: Seriously, just genuinely asking.
She smiles.
Lyn: We only went out for a few weeks. I'm single now.
An explosion of emotions inside Chase but there isn't a phrase, or a word, or even a .. thing.. in this world that can explain the feeling he has.
Chase Jackson: Oh.. Oh, sorry to hear.
Lyn: I'm not. I'll .. I'll see you around.
Chase nods.
Chase Jackson: Alright. I'll see you around.
Chase walks to the end of the isle but looks back. She looks back at the same time. They catch each others smiles one last time. We're instantly flashed to Chase standing in front of his house holding a bag of groceries as some Action Wrestling journalist is standing in front of him.
Chase Jackson: I'm sorry, who are you again?
Jeff Hero: I'm Jeff Hero, I work as an intern to the John Thomas Show and I was wondering if I could get a word. I'm curious if you have any words on Joey Scala and your upcoming match on Clash?
Chase Jackson: Yeah. I uh. yeah, sorry, I'm not distracted, uhm you just caught me off guard, I was thinking.. about something, I was thinking about Joey Scala actually and how he uh, annoys me. You know, this isn't the best time.
Jeff Hero: That's alright, just a quick sound bite..
Chase Jackson: Yeah, Joey is every one of those weird bullies from school, or those weird haters from your work where you just hear him talk every other day about how he knows everything and how he can predict everything and you just want to punch them in the mouth, you just want to shove them down, you just want them to shut the hell up. That's what I'm going to do to Joey on Clash, I'm going to shut him the hell up. That's all I got, man.
Jeff nods and turns off his recorder and gets on his electronic scooter and takes off. Chase turns around to assist bringing in the last of the groceries inside his parents house. The door closes behind him. His dad is telling his mom how they saw Chase' ex at the store as Chase brings in the bag onto the kitchen counter. The mom is so delighted to hear about Lyn, she was so sweet to them.
Chase turns to walk towards his room and his phone vibrates. He pulls out his phone and notices two text messages from two different people.
Lyn
Kyle Kemp
He clicks on Kyle Kemp's name as his eyebrow raises.
"You weren't there for m-"
/Deleted.
He quickly goes back to the text message panel and clicks on Lyn's.
"Hey, it was good seeing you. You look great. I've been trying to keep up on your wrestling, so good luck on Monday."
Chase smiles. He walks up the stairs to a very good Friday.
