There are quite a few fans packed outside of the Bud Walton Arena, waiting for the doors to open so that they can go in. All of the entrances are blocked off except for one. There is an inflated dark tunnel leading to the doors. Vanessa watches the audience from inside. The sight of people being devoted enough to show up this early puts a smile on her face....until she sees someone in the crowd that sends a chill down her spine. The cloak. The mask. There was no mistaking it. It was Zero, and he was looking in her direction. It was as if he knew exactly where she was inside that building. Vanessa starts to tremble a bit. She whispers to herself.
Vanessa: No...it can't be. Why is he here?
She shakes her head to see if she was just seeing things. To her surprise, when she looked again, he was gone. Unsure of whether or not that was a good thing, she decided to try her best to ignore it. Vanessa forces a smile onto her face as she wants for her cue to go through the tunnel.
Three people emerge outside of the arena. Two security guards and a beat up man that they're dragging across the ground before coming to a stop in front of the crowd. This catches their attention instantly as they stare at the trio in silence. A fourth person emerges from the tunnel. This one unknown. Just a druid with a gun. Without saying a word, the druid shoots the downed man in the back of the head. The fans are still stunned silent. A handful of them understand what's happening, but the rest are taken aback. The druid walks back through the tunnel, followed by the guards and the corpse that they continue to drag, the last of which leaves behind a trail of blood. A few moments pass before the crowd breaks out in applause. Meanwhile, the druid walks up to Vanessa and reveals themself to be Claire Hawkins. Nessa smiles and gives her a hug.
Flashback about 45 minutes before the "public execution" scene.
Vanessa is talking to three staff members backstage. She's trying to scare them, but it's not working.
Vanessa: I CAN be scary!
Guard 1: No you can't. You're too adorable.
Vanessa: But I have a weapon.
Guard 2: If you were a serious threat with it, you wouldn't have been allowed to have it.
Vanessa: I'm allowed to have it because it's part of the attire.
Guard 3: Riiiiight right.
Guard 1: Listen. It's okay if you're not scary. You don't have to be. You can just be cute and the fans will still love it.
Vanessa pouts.
Vanessa: I wanna be both!
The guards laugh. Meanwhile Claire Hawkins sees what's happening and decides to assist the Execution host. She sends her a text, telling her to threaten to scream at them.
Vanessa: I'd stop laughing if I were you, or else you'll make me have to scream at you.
Guard 3: Then you'd just be loud, not scary.
Vanessa: Oh yeah? Well how about this. If I can scare you, you guys have to help me with scaring the fans.
Guard 2: Fine, but if you can't, you have to buy us food for the rest of the month.
Vanessa: Deal!
Vanessa prepares herself by taking a few deep breaths. Unbeknownst to the guards, it's just a distraction while Claire sneaks up behind them. When she's in place, the Metal Witch winks at Vanessa. Having received the signal, Nessa inhales deeply. Then, the goes to scream, but doesn't make a sound. Instead, Claire yells behind the guards, causing them to nearly jump out of their shoes. Claire and Vanessa laugh at them.
Vanessa: I win! Teehee!
The guards look at each other in disbelief. They smile and shake their heads, accepting their defeat. The flashback ends with them discussing a plan.
Vanessa: That was AWESOME! The looks on their faces was priceless! Thanks again for helping me out with the spooky things!
Claire: Yes. Well.....
As gently as possible, Action Wrestling's wicked wretch untangled herself from Vanessa's hug and took a step back; readjusting her costume in the process.
Claire: Despite my feelings towards the corporate bastardization of the holiday even I can get into the spirit of things. After all, everyone deserves a good scare or two.
Vanessa: Right! You know, you're a really nice person. I know we don't really get to see each other much since we're on different shows, but I'm glad you're here, and I'm grateful for your support.
Vanessa feels herself feeling emotional, so she makes up an excuse to run off.
Vanessa: Oh, I think the makeup team is ready to paint me. Gotta go. Good luck in your match!
She runs off. It would likely not be the last time she would have to do this. She knows that if she spends enough time talking to someone, she risks slipping up and letting out her secret. One she was too terrified to speak about.
