Dear Torture,
My name is Mercedes Bouchet. I’m Trey’s mother. I know you are a busy man but I hope you take the time to read this email and consider my request. I am sorry for sending it to several media outlets. It’s probably bringing your company negative attention but given the stakes it's necessary. Also, if I cannot appeal to your compassion, bad publicity is the only leverage I have.
Please do not allow my son to fight Der Metzger. It would be a mistake to make him to share the ring with the animal who came very close to ending his life. Trey knows my feelings on this and while he says all the right things those words are of little comfort to a woman who had to watch helplessly as her boy was put on a stretcher on national television, who sat beside him when he was unresponsive in the hospital and not knowing if he’d wake up, and who had to console his fiance and assure her he would be alright even if I wasn’t sure myself.
Trey is fine now. His recovery is remarkable all things considered. For that I thank his good genes and the Grace of God. But him doing what he wants- a rematch with that “man” is in no one’s best interests except, and forgive me for being blunt, your company’s. I know enough about how wrestling works to recognize that grudges help hype up matches, and that there is money to be made if Trey faces Der Metzger at the Execution show.
Yes, Trey would be earning a sizable paycheck as well if the fight happens; money that all of us could benefit from greatly. Our little corner of the world is still trying to dig out from a natural disaster. In fact I will tell you my home, the place where Trey grew up, is still uninhabitable.
That makes me worry our financial hardship is what is motivating Trey to seek out this match. He is shouldering a burden he is not responsible for. Parents are supposed to take care of their children, not the other way around.
You know that of course. You are a parent. When Trey first joined Action Wrestling you were trying to protect your son from Rick Mad and Bobby Rage who were targeting him over some old vendetta. You helped Alex the best way you knew how; by placing your body between them and him. And ultimately, the two of you, working together, were able to put an end to the threat they posed.
I am not a Hall of Fame Wrestler like you though. I cannot stand by him and help him fight his battles. All I can do is appeal to you, a father, and ask that you use your power to make sure this battle doesn’t happen at all.
Trey fighting Metzger is not a guarantee. He has to beat Tristain Kancer Monday to ‘earn’ his shot. This seems likely though. Trey won last time the pair faced, and he’s doubly motivated now. But I am aware of your sport’s adage about how the card is subject to change, and it is my belief it will be good for everyone that in the case of Execution it does. Trey will be disappointed, but he will get over it. He will not pursue some other means of seeking retribution with Der Metzger. I know my son and there is no hate in his heart; not even for that thing that tried to kill him six months ago. That makes him a better person than me.
For the record, I did tell Trey I would be contacting you. I didn’t want him to be surprised or embarrassed when word of my request came out. Trey said he understood, and that he was sorry that it had come to this point, but his mind was made up and if he was given the opportunity to fight ‘Todd’ he would take it.
Not once did Trey object to my plan, because he wasn’t going to try and stop me from doing what I know is right. That’s the kind of man he is.
He has so much to offer this world, whether as a wrestler or not, to risk the consequences of him fighting Der Metzger again. No true good can come from this match. There’s no monetary reward great enough, or feeling of retribution strong enough, to take that chance.
Some people are going to accuse me of being overprotective and worrying over nothing. Wrestlers are tough. They can take a surprising amount of punishment. I know this. I watched Sam Kidsgrove compete for titles twice in one night in Tokyo; the second fight so dangerous it is literally called a ‘Japanese Death Match’. I watch Trey’s friend Johnny get brutalized defending his Hardcore Championship week after week. And Trey is as strong as they are.
But there are some things strength can’t account for. Bad luck and ill intentions are two of them.
And I know, Torture, despite all precautions, there have been wrestlers who have died on your watch.
Please help me make sure there’s no chance of that happening with my son at Execution.
Thank you,
Mercedes Bouchet
