A hush fell over the Langerbys gathered in the old cathedral building as The Father approached the lectern. The gruff man, whose mangy beard was overgrown and clothes torn and ragged, was held in high regard by the group. He was their leader, after all. Everyone in the congregation had found their way here through him. A guiding light for some, a caring father figure for others, and the man that they all knew could provide for them.
“My brothers and sisters...for the longest time we, as Langerbys, have lived off the land...we have farmed, we have sown our seeds in this rich, rich pasture...and they have borne fruit.”
Luc Langerby spoke with a polish unusual for a man of his appearance. He sounded like a businessman discussing his latest pitch for a new start-up in silicon valley, rather than a dingy homeless person pleading for money on the street.
“But while we have survived as a collective, there are still needs that need to be met in this great community of ours…”
Luc gestures to the peeling walls and decaying floorboards of the chapel, not to mention the coarse language spray-painted on some of the plaster.
“I’m not unwise to the decay which has seeped into some of our most holy of places. While of course we have some men very talented with their hands within our ranks...I think the Langerbys can do better..."
An excited murmur breaks out among the Langerbys, the crowd wondering what this announcement could be - a new chapel? Some new farming tools? A clothesline that doesn’t break down in a strong wind?
“The time has come for me to begin a new chapter...this weekend I set out to fight for the people who mean the most to me, my flock. I begin my journey at Action Wrestling, for which I will be paid handsomely, even more should I fell those who stand before me.”
The audience cheers, though some are clearly less excited than others. Still, as the Langerbys have learnt, it’s better to shower Luc with praise than to give him a reason to be upset.
“Of course, while I’m away, you will still need a leader. One who can steer you in the right direction while The Father is away.”
Luc casts his eye across the room, eventually falling on a man in the front row.
“Please, Thomas, join me.”
Applause fills the room as he stands up to join Luc on stage. By comparison to Luc, he is far better dressed, sporting a finely trimmed beard and blue dress shirt.
“While I’m away, fighting for this flock, my only child, Thomas Langerby, will take the reigns…”
Luc and Thomas exchange a warm hug as the crowd continues to clap and cheer. Luc kisses his forehead, before taking the mic one last time.
“Please, Langerbys, make The Son feel welcome.”

Before I start, I would like to thank the kind folk at Action Wrestling for giving a Langerby a chance to prove their worth.
Lord knows so many are denied that opportunity in this greedy society we live in.
You know what happens when those people are turned back, discarded and downtrodden? They fall to me, they come to me seeking the one thing they are routinely denied.
Acceptance.
Which is why I’m so thankful for AW accepting a Langerby into a circle that is often dominated by the cliques, by those who choose to exclude others in hope of attaining special treatment.
I do not seek this kind of attention for my own gratification, I’m but a humble man fighting for those who mean the most to him - The Langerbys, a name I’d like you all to get acquainted with well enough.
We’re always looking for new members to find Salvation in our ranks, perhaps even my two challengers this Monday night may be interested?
Heh, I won’t hold my breath.
Two egomaniacs, one who calls himself a Man of Chaos, the other who lives by a boorish mantra. If only DTF stood for Down To Follow...what a revelation that would be.
Alas, I must deliver the good word to these people, show them that self is not always the most important aspect of life.
I have devoted my life to improving the conditions of others, and while normally my methods are somewhat less violent...I still see this as me doing bother of these men a favour.
Sometimes it takes a good beating to learn a lesson, especially a life lesson.
Let me give these two fools a gift on Monday, and show that the Langerbys don’t mess around when it comes to brawlin'.
See ya'll in the ring.
