Plextirpating Kancer
“You and I weren’t booked to fight at random, Tristan. There are significant stakes involved in this match. Not surface level, since our paths have never crossed; but if you dig a little deeper, if you’re willing to do a little plexploratory surgery into our respective bodies of work, the motives are clear.”
“You’re being given a chance, maybe your last chance, to back up everything you’ve said about yourself since joining Action Wrestling. That you’re an umpteen time world champion across plex number of promotions. That you’ve been a scourge of the sport since dinosaurs roamed the Earth.”
“You get an opportunity to demonstrate you’re equal to all the hype by stopping my momentum dead in its tracks if you beat me Monday. I was booked a choice spot to return to Clash last week in Dover. I got to be a surprise partner to one of the most recognized names in wrestling John Blade, and given a simple night’s work by facing the dysfunctional tag team of Jayson Price and Mason Jones. It was as soft a landing as one could imagine for the Prodigal Son.”
“Now, though, the shock of my return has worn off and it’s time for me to re-establish my bona fides. And that’s going to be a hell of a job, I admit. Given the turn over the roster has had since I’ve been gone I bet there are a lot of people in that locker room wondering ‘Who the Hell is this guy?’ and thinking ‘All he does is suplex people? Let me at him.’”
“And a lot of those people, Tristan? From what I’ve seen they’re much more talented than you and much more deserving of a shot to rain on my metaphorical cake.”
“I’ll go ahead and list some plexamples because hey who doesn’t appreciate a shout out? Lethe. Zolton. Jason Cain. Catherine Van Owen. Josiah Howard. Scotty Donovan. Niamh Zeist. The Dangerous Gentlemen. Bryan Williams.”
“Bryan Williams is an established vet, a champion in a major company now, and he’s willing to bide his time to work his way up the card here in Action Wrestling. Let’s contrast that attitude with your own. You came in with a big head and demanded a spot at the top right away. Despite not ever showing anything close to the level of game to be World Champion, you thought you could shit-talk your way to the main event.”
“This is a hell of a thing for me to drag you for, given how things suplayed out when I got my chance for the Title, but man at least I earned the right to spit the bit at Timebomb. The highlights of your career in Action Wrestling is beating Claire Hawkins, something Donavan did in his first frigging match in the company, and irritating Mathias Mintzel, which NATE pulled off on the reg.”
“It’s not a resume that inspires confidence, Tristan. Yet, you’re still shooting your mouth off. When you were given your soft landing, a spot in Devil’s Gate, you immediately began opining that it should you be running the asylum and not Royce, Harper, or Metzger.”
“You’ve learned nothing in your time here.”
“If you were smart, and serious, you’d be coming at me full force. Tomorrow you could not only prove you deserve this chance at being the downer ending to my comeback, but also that your claims about leading Devil’s Gate should not be just blown off as delusional.”
“I don’t think we’ll get that though. Instead I plexpect the usual shit from you; being unprepared and overmatched, losing to me despite having your buddies running interference at ringside.”
“Which brings us to why this match is relevant for me.”
“Devil’s Gate, specifically Todd Metzger, whupped my ass at Timebomb. He put me on the shelf the week after.”
“He drove me from this company for six months.”
“So to say we’ve got unfinished business is an understatement.”
“And, hmmmmm, what’s the name of ADub’s plext super show, again?”
“Yeah, you don’t have to be psychic to predict where this is all heading.”
“It only starts with me beating you.”
