The advanced class has finished for the day and Jacob Koenig, Omega Champion, is watching the recruits head to the locker room. He takes a healthy sip from his Iron Flask, then nods his head. When he turns around, he walks right into Omega Man. (We still don't care what his name is.) Jacob Koenig. Jesus! Omega Man. Actually, my name is-- Jacob Koenig. What do you need, pal? Omega Man. I am here to inform you that Backbreaker has a tag team match on the upcoming episode of-- Jacob Koenig. Monday Night Clash. Yeah, man. We have the internet here. Jay and Ty are already watching footage of Robert Benedict's debut match against Donovan Rayne. Omega Man. Is there anything you guys need from me before your match? Jacob Koenig. We are world-class professional athletes, bud. We have everything covered. Omega Man. Okey-doke. Omega Man walks away. Jacob sees his manager and friend Tommy Stark walking him, so he exits the ring. Tommy Stark. Good stuff out there, Jake. Jacob Koenig. Thanks. How long were you watching? Tommy Stark. I… uhh… wasn’t… Jacob Koenig. Oh. Okay. Well, I’m going to go clean up and then check on Jay and Ty. They’re researching their next match. Tommy Stark. It’s not against those nuthouse weirdos again, right? Jacob Koenig. Nope. A totally different situation. Looks like a real tag team that could make an impact in Action Wrestling. Tommy Stark. What are their names? Jacob Koenig. Robert Benedict and Hector Crowley. Tommy Stark. Doesn’t ring a bell. Jacob Koenig. You don’t watch Clash, huh? Tommy Stark. I’m a busy man, Jake. I’ve got my hand in a lot of cookie pots. I work damn near twenty hours a day, seven days a week. Jacob Koenig. That seems impossible. Tommy Stark. And yet… I’m doing it. Tommy’s phone rings and he pulls it out of his pocket. Tommy Stark. Shoot. I have to take this, Jake. It’s Showtime. Jacob nods. Tommy answers the phone and walks away. Jacob goes to clean up before checking on his friends’ research. Scene fades. JAY // SASAKI Dangerous Gentlemen, huh? What's so dangerous about them anyway? The only example I've seen is a three-minute match between Robert Benedict and that guy with the nine-minute entrance. How have producers not cut that out or put him out there during a segment? That nonsense wouldn't fly back home in Japan. There, gentlemen truly are dangerous. You can get your hand chopped off just for looking at someone the wrong way. Okay, that's a bad example, but the sentiment remains. From the limited exposure to these "dangerous" gentlemen, I can tell that this isn’t going to be a problem too big for Backbreaker to solve. I am intrigued by this Robert Benedict. I have heard the name Thunderbolt before, from my homeland. He never worked for WRESTLEGATE or RSPW, where I spent most of my career, but his name floated around as a top prospect. I am happy that he found his way back to America, because there is a growing desire for Strong Style to be implemented into the American style of pro wrestling. Being well… well… versed in Strong Style, I am looking forward to meeting this man in the ring. If there is something special there… I will be the one to find it. Though he has more than paid his dues in Japan, I would also recommend he come work with us at the Performance Center. If this man considers himself a Young Lion, then I would be Mufasa. Even in defeat, my power is never-ending. TYLER // KLINE Here they are. Born to be kings. They’re the princes of the universe. At least… that’s the claim. I didn’t know the universe was a kingdom that could be ruled… so that’s a brave claim for these guys to make. Now… I know Tosa is focused on the kid who trained in Japan… so that leaves the other one to me. Hector Crowley, was it? Sounds like a guy who was fired by Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas. I’m not here to make jokes though. I’m here to study this man, this ten-year ring veteran, this MMA expert. On paper, he’s everything I look for in an opponent. The perfect opportunity to test out my growing skillset. I haven’t even come to a handful of matches yet, so this one is pretty darn important. Another opportunity to tag with Tosa and hone my craft. Even working against a seasoned veteran like Crowley will benefit me in the long run. Some might look at our last match and say we got lucky. We won by disqualification. Getting lucky seems to be a theme for us, but that could all end with this match against Dangerous Gentlemen. I’ve binged some Hector matches from England and taken a few pages of notes. I’m a student of the game, much like his partner Robert. I don’t need to get into our similarities because those won’t help us win this match. Our differences are what set us apart. On paper, these are a couple of white-meat babyfaces. But everything I’ve seen in interviews and in their matches… they’re Grade A rudos. Nothing about their attitudes or personas or whatever screams “babyface”. Even the name of their team: Dangerous Gentlemen. Good guys don’t need to be dangerous to win. Backbreaker Fight Club, on the other hand, we’re as good as it gets. We’ll go out there and offer up some handshakes, as good guys tend to do. Then we’ll put our hearts into the match and do what we do best. Whether or not we win, we will offer up some handshakes after the match, too. You know… as good guys tend to do. I’m really trying to put over that we’re good guys. Is that landing at all? Because people see the four of us together and assume we’re just egotistical assholes. I don’t know where that idea came from at all. We’re four wholesome guys, trying to make a brighter future for professional wrestling. We bust our asses full-time at the Performance Center to build up the next generation of Action Wrestling superstars. All of that… while also working hard to make sure we are part of that future as well. Jay and I know how much this match means to the tag team landscape on Monday Night Clash. If we pull off a victory over Dangerous Gentlemen, we could be well on our way to a Tag Team Championship Match. That’s the mountaintop. That’s the plateau. That’s the endgame. We’re going to put them all on notice. H.R. Department. Devil’s Gate. Team Extreme. The Animals. Dangerous Gentlemen. All of the CruiserClash tag teams, too. But especially the Tag Team Champions Vanguard. We’re coming. And we’re coming hard. That's what she said. BFC |
