The English Rose was still the Action Wrestling Television Champion; Scotty Donovan had taken Katherine to her limits, yet she had pulled out a victory from the jaws of defeat.
But that was last week, and on Monday night her next challenger awaited the upstart wrestler, one who sheβd challenged herself - future Action Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee, Spencer Adams.
She had a busy schedule lined up for the coming days, Mick had already plotted Katherineβs intense training regime. They both recognised that this without a doubt was Katherineβs biggest challenge to date.
But Katherine was excited by the challenge, she knew Adams was the standout favourite, yet she was still determined to beat the former World Champion to help build a strong legacy of her own.
Whilst sat at the dining table of her Las Vegas apartment, Katherine finished polishing the Action Wrestling Television Championship belt. She then propped the belt up on the table, gazing into the shiny silver faceplate. She was proud to be the reigning Champion and hoped her reign would not end next week. But she vowed to be a fighting champion, as well as a memorable one; beating Adams would definitely be a moment shown over and over again, and perhaps would be regarded as one of the greatest upsets in Action Wrestling history.
I wish theyβd trust my judgement, she thought to herself, thinking about the various Tweets she had read over the previous days. Superstars such as Johnny Bacchus, Lissie Hope and Carter Shaw had all questioned Spencer Adams intentions and the way heβd been granted this opportunity. He didnβt even know about it.
The match had been solely Katherineβs idea, Adams learned of it when she made the challenge live on Monday Night Clash. Alexander Pasternak needed convincing, he didnβt want one of his brightest young stars hung out to dry.
I twisted his arm, Katherine chuckled. She didnβt physically harm the Monday Night Clash General Manager, but it took an awful lot of convincing, she sold him on the fact that regardless of the result, Katherineβs stock would be elevated by facing the former multi-time champion.
Buzz!
Who is that? Katherine turned her head to the front door, that sound was her intercom system. She left her championship on the table as she stood up, walking over to the door with a sense of anxiousness - she wasnβt expecting anyone.
She picked up the handset and spoke with her soft-sounding voice, βHello?β
After a pause, there was a response, βGood morning, is this the Hastings Residence?β
Hastings residence? Katherine thought that sounded rather posh, perhaps the man had heard her voice and felt she was a lady or something. βUhβ¦ yes, this is sheβ.
βGreat, I have a delivery for you from Divine,β the delivery man replied.
I didnβt order anything, Katherine thought to herself. βAre you sure? Iβm afraid I didnβt order anythingβ.
βItβs ok maβam, it was ordered on behalf of a highly valued customer,β he explained. βThere is a gift card includedβ.
Oh blimey, she smiled to herself. βThat sounds amazing, Iβll buzz you in now, thank youβ.
She pressed the button, and the delivery man entered the building. As she hung up the handset she looked down at what she was wearing. Christ! Katherine was dressed in her nightwear: a very loosely fitted vest top and shorts. She quickly ran into her bedroom and covered herself up in a robe, just in time for the door to knock.
She ran back to her front door and opened it cautiously, greeting the delivery man with her warm smile.
βKatherine Hasting?β asked the delivery man, whilst holding a large hamper.
βYes,β replied Katherine, who looked on in awe at the hamper. βIs that really for me?β
After talking for a moment, Katherine invited the delivery man into her home and he placed the hamper down on her table, he noticed the Television Championship belt in the process.
βGood luck on Monday,β said the delivery man, βYouβre my daughter's favouriteβ.
βWell thank you,β replied Katherine. βHow old is your daughter?β
βSheβs ten next week, she loves wrestling. I am expecting her to turn around and tell my wife and me that she wants to be a wrestler one dayβ.
I remember that feeling, back when I used to sit on Daddyβs lap watching it when I was that age, Katherine smiled, βI know how she feelsβ.
βKeep doing what you're doing, you already have inspired my daughter, Iβm sure there will be thousands of other girls who look up to you. Most people will have Spencer Adams pegged as the favourite, but just the fact that you challenged him showed my daughter the importance of hard work, determination and a will to succeed. Win or lose on Monday, she will love you for being braveβ.
Katherineβs heart melted; that comment made all the sacrifice worth it. βDid you say it was her birthday next week?β she asked.
βOh, yes, next Tuesdayβ replied the delivery man.
βOne second,β asked Katherine, as she walked over to her lounge area. After rummaging through her bag, she pulled out a t-shirt.
She walked back over to the delivery man, βGive her this, this was the t-shirt I wore to the ring for my match against Scotty Donovanβ.
The delivery man accepted the gift with a look of shock on his face, βWow, thank you so much, she will love itβ.
After conversing for a further few minutes, the delivery man finally departed, leaving Katherine with her hamper. She examined the basket with excitement, finding a gift card buried within the contents.
She picked it up and read it:
She placed the card to her chest, closing her eyes as she looked overcome with emotion. How lovely of them. The gift had been sent by Sam Kidsgrove and Zooey Deschanel.
They believe in me, as does Mick, and that young girl. Win or lose come Monday, I will give it my all.
